Can Reial

Can Reial is a grocery shop located in the town centre of Es Cubells, next to the restaurant owned by the Roig family, which has kept the name of the family home over the years.

Bartomeu Marí and his wife, Maria, founders of Can Reial, in 1958, the same year that the small village church was officially consecrated, saw a business opportunity and decided to open a shop in front of the new church. Until then, they had already traded in bulk and basic necessities from their home, but the opening of the new shop-bar allowed them to expand the business and incorporate more products. Afterwards, their daughter, Catalina Marí, took over the business for many years. Now, Catalina has left the business to her nieces, Maria and Catalina Roig Marí, who run the restaurant and the shop, respectively.

In the beginning, the bar and the shop were one and the same, only separated by a doorway. In the 1980s, the premises were renovated, leaving them as they are today, with the bar completely separated from the shop.

Interestingly enough, Can Reial has always had famous customers, such as Ursula Andress, Raphael, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and many others who have lived in the village of Es Cubells over the years.
